This weeks exciting "sounds of New Zealand" soundbite has a seasonal flavour: Merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Friday, 4 December 2009

The only thing funnier than a well placed insult is to explain a well placed insult.

I dont know why this tickled me pink, but it did.. Im still chuckling when i think about it. I know we've all felt the sting of rejection from a job application. After applying for a job demonstrating (done off the cuff, and with very little chance of getting it – especially as she missed the deadline by some weeks) Agnes got an extremely nice letter of rejection. She asked me how to respond, and as a joke (a JOKE) I put together something along the lines of:

Dear

Many thanks for the beautifully composed rejection letter. Nevertheless, a rejection letter is still a rejection letter, regardless of composition or prose. To that end may I say you can rot in hell, take your demonstrating and shove it where the sun don’t shine lady

Warm regards,

Agnes M L Karlson

After a preliminary review Agnes' only improvement was to add the rather helpful suggestion:

“i.e. in your arse”

Its true, sometimes you really can’t state something simply enough... there may be a parable in there but I’ll let you do the disentangling. Im off to find somewhere to do some more chuckling

By the way we shelved the letter, but please feel free to use it as a template for any correspondence, as you feel appropriate.

I should have had you compose replies to my rejections...how satisfying.
